Meditation - new for 2020!

My meditation journey so far…

If someone had told me even two years ago that I would be using mindfulness and meditation in my everyday life, I would have laughed at them!

If they then told me that I would train to become a meditation instructor I would have also laughed. I was probably one of the most restless people I know. Sitting or laying still was not on my radar. I even struggled to sit and watch a film (much to my husbands annoyance!). My New Years Eve resolution in 2019 was to watch more Netflix! That shows how bad my attention span was and how bad I was at sitting still (safe to say I now love snuggling down in front of the TV, though you still won’t catch me watching EastEnders or Corrie.)

I always had the perception that meditation was boring and only for hippies! On my journey to wellness, I realised that what my life was missing, was being able to slow down, breathe, reflect and take much needed time out. Time to stop running away from feelings, sensations and emotions. Instead I have learnt to embrace and except them, ALL of them even the horrible ones. I feel like I spent most of my 30’s in the fight/flight response and believe me this isn’t good for anyone’s physical or mental health.

Why learn to meditate and be mindful

◦ Reduce stress & anxiety

◦ Time out to focus and reflect

◦ Learn gratitude

◦ Positive mindset

◦ Learn to enjoy stillness

◦ Learn breathing techniques

◦ Lengthen attention span

◦ Improve sleep

If all the above isn’t enough to tempt you, how about the fact you get a whole 45 minutes to yourself to enjoy being still in a lovely warm, relaxing, quiet environment!

I am thrilled that from January I will be running a 6 week meditation course at Merton Health and Fitness. Each week will have a different focus and my aim is to teach the important skills that I have learnt, been learning and continue to learn.

We all want a calm, happy, positive mind. It’s time to open your mind and embrace change. I can’t wait to share my knowledge with you.
